Puchner 28

The Puchner Model 28 is one of the most respected professional contrabassoons in the world, manufactured by J. Püchner Spezial-Holzblasinstrumentebau GmbH in Nauheim, Germany. The instrument is used by contrabassoonists in top orchestras worldwide and offers an exceptional combination of tonal quality, ergonomics, and craftsmanship.

The body is made from curly mountain maple that has been dried and matured for more than 20 years, finished in a dark red lacquer. The fully silver-plated keywork extends to subcontra B-flat , the lowest register required in professional orchestral literature , and is designed for a comfortable, ergonomic grip technique.

The Model 28 is equipped as standard with 13 rollers, distributed between left and right hand, including rollers on the C key, E-flat key, F key, F-sharp key, A-flat key, E key, and the low C-sharp and D-sharp keys. Additional features include an E-flat lever for the first finger of the right hand, an F-sharp key for the right little finger, adjustable support for the left index finger, double A-flat key, E-F-sharp trill, and an infinitely adjustable stand.

The three-dimensionally adjustable hand rest , equipped with two lockable ball joints in both the base and the wooden body , allows the player to fully adjust both the angle and the distance between the right hand and the instrument according to personal preference. This makes the Puchner 28 particularly accessible for players with smaller hands or specific ergonomic needs.
