Frequently Asked Questions about trumpets
Which trumpet is best for beginners?+
For beginners, the Manchester Brass TP-420GB is our recommendation. The instrument has smooth valves, a solid finish and comes supplied with a mouthpiece and gig bag. Yamaha is a good alternative if you prefer a Japanese brand.
Which instruments can I test?+
You can test saxophones, clarinets, trumpets, cornets, oboes, trombones, horns and tubas with us. You are also welcome to visit our Adams Flute Centre for flutes and piccolos.
Can I come by without an appointment to test an instrument?+
Yes, you can, but we recommend contacting us in advance. This way, we ensure that the instrument you want to test is ready at the correct branch. Our stores in Ittervoort and Lummen both have testing rooms.
Can I test products and/or instruments in the store?+
Absolutely – we encourage it! You're very welcome to try out instruments and accessories in our stores. We have several test rooms in different sizes, allowing you to test and compare at your own pace and make the right choice. In the meantime, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
On our website, you can see in which store an item is in stock. To be sure the product is available when you visit, we recommend contacting us in advance.
Planning to test an instrument? Please bring your own mouthpiece. Want to try out mouthpieces? Then don’t forget to bring your own instrument.
Can I trade in my old trumpet at Adams?+
Yes. Adams will value your instrument and deduct the amount from the purchase of a new model. Use our serial number database to find out the age of your trumpet first.
Can I test the instrument in my orchestra?+
We understand that the acoustics of your own rehearsal space or concert hall differ from our test rooms. Ask our advisors about the possibilities for a trial period (playing out), so that you can be certain that the instrument blends perfectly into your ensemble.
What is the difference between a Bb trumpet and a C trumpet?+
The main difference is the key and the application. A C trumpet sounds a whole tone higher than a Bb trumpet, which means orchestral parts written in C can be played directly without transposing. That is why professional orchestral players often play on C. For brass band, fanfare, jazz and light music, the Bb is the standard and remains so.
Does Adams sell second-hand trumpets?+
Yes. Adams sells professionally serviced second-hand trumpets that have been technically checked before sale. You can play them straight away without additional maintenance.
