Cornet Repair and Maintenance

Thoroughly cleaning your instrument. It is recommended to clean your instrument once every six months. You can do this yourself, or you can have it done by Adams. We thoroughly clean your instrument in our large ultrasonic bath and polish it to make it shine again.

We recommend bringing your cornet to a brass repair specialist for regular maintenance at least once every two years. During this process, the instrument is completely disassembled, cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and thoroughly inspected. All springs, guides, and corks are checked and replaced if necessary. In addition, the valves, slides, and triggers are oiled and greased. After maintenance, your cornet is carefully reassembled and ready to play.

After four to eight years, your cornet will usually need an overhaul. How soon this is necessary depends on how intensively you play. A cornet overhaul involves a thorough process to restore the instrument to top condition. Any dents are straightened and removed (at an additional cost, to be discussed), after which the cornet is completely disassembled. The instrument is carefully cleaned, including ultrasonic cleaning, to remove all residue and dirt. The valves, slides, and triggers are made smooth again, and any play in the mechanism is corrected. Springs, guides, and corks are replaced where necessary. Finally, the valves and triggers are oiled and greased, and the slides are polished and re-greased so the instrument functions like new.

For overhauls, we use original parts whenever available.

Note: Polishing the exterior of the instrument is not included in the overhaul.

The same conditions apply to silver plating as for lacquering your Cornet. In addition to 'normal' silver plating, you can also opt for matt silver plating of the instrument.

In addition to silver plating and lacquering your instrument, you can also have your mouthpieces silver- or gold plated. Contact us about the costs and possibilities. We can also make a plastic rim on the mouthpiece or a screw-on rim.

Valve reconstruction makes your valve cylindrical in shape and fits perfectly in the valve housing so that your valve runs smoothly. The valves are then nickel-plated. You can also choose valve alignment, valve alignment ensures that the passages in the valve connect seamlessly to the valve pumps. This results in better control of the instrument.
