Luk Artois began his musical studies at the Municipal Conservatory of Leuven. He continued his higher music education at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. There, he earned first prizes in music theory and percussion, and obtained a Master of Music degree with a focus on percussion under Mr. Alois Verbeeck, and chamber music under Mr. Leo Ouderits. In 1997, he received his specialization diploma in percussion with Mr. Leo Ouderits.
He also took private lessons with Prof. Rainer Seegers (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra). In 1994, he was a Tenuto finalist. Until becoming the principal timpanist of the Beethoven Academy in 2000, he worked as a freelance percussionist and timpanist with most Belgian orchestras.
Since September 2003, he has been the principal timpanist of the orchestra of the Royal Theatre of La Monnaie. He also performs with ensembles for both contemporary and early music, including the Hermes Ensemble, Il Fondamento, Currende, and Anima Eterna.
