Keys and Trills
Brossa F#
An extra key, located above the D key, that improves the intonation and response of F#, especially F#3.
Briccialdi Thumb Key
The Briccialdi thumb key is designed similarly to that of a concert flute, with only one tone hole (instead of two, which is the usual construction for piccolos). This has the same effect as the G# facilitator, making the note more stable and easier to play.
C# Trill Key
This extra key mechanism (usually available only by special order) is a highly useful addition with several functions:
B to C# – Play a normal B and trill the C# trill key. The thumb-and-finger trill is eliminated, and tuning is improved.
C to C# – A faster trill that provides a more comfortable feel.
High F# to G# – Play high F# and trill the C# trill key.
High G to G# – The intonation is improved on this trill.
High G to A? – Play a normal high G and trill using both the C# trill key and the upper trill key together.
High A? to B? – Finger high A? and trill the C# trill key along with both other trill keys.
D# Roller
This roller facilitates the movement between the low D#, C#, and C keys on the foot joint.
Donut (E-Ring/High E Facilitator)
A cheaper alternative to an E-mechanism. This is a small insert that makes the high E easier to play. Unlike an E-mechanism, an E-ring can be installed on an inline flute.
Gizmo Key
Often called the High C Facilitator key, this improves the intonation of the highest C and makes it easier to play. Nearly all B-foot joints come standard with a Gizmo key. This key is not necessary on a C-foot joint.
Inline G
The G key is aligned with the other keys on the flute, this is the traditional position for the G key.
Offset G
Refers to the G key, which can be either "offset" or "inline." Offset G is more comfortable for most players.
Split E Mechanism
The high E (E3) on the flute is not always easy to play without cracking. A "split" E mechanism makes this note easier to produce without affecting any other notes.
High G# Facilitator (Piccolo)
This mechanism on a piccolo partially closes the thumb keys when the G# lever is pressed, making the high G# easier to play and more focused.
The Brögger system
The Brögger system is a pinless design for the keys of a flute, developed by Danish flute maker Johan Brögger. It provides a more stable, smoother, and quieter mechanism with faster action by using connectors instead of traditional fixed axles. This allows for precise adjustments and reduces wear.
