Playing Mozart in Style

Saturday 26 April 2025 | 14:30 - 15:30 | Room D

Playing Mozart in Style. ?A Flutist’s Guide to Achieving a Vivid, Historically Informed, Performance

In this practical workshop, based on a personal encounter with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s letters and relevant treaties of the 18th century, you will gain a deep insight into Mozart’s distinctive writing style and his passion for music. We will unlock wisdom from master musicians such as Giuseppe Tartini, Leopold Mozart, Johann Joachim Quantz and Johann George Tromlitz and find different solutions for prominent phrases of our favourite concerto movements.

Diving deeply into Mozart’s creative genius, we will try to come up with our own solutions for ornamentation and composition of cadenzas and intros. In doing so, we will discover more about the origins of Mozart’s style and how we wish to adequately express his favourite musical patterns on our beautiful instrument.

The differences and possibilities in sound and timbre between instruments from different periods will be demonstrated by comparison of a Miyazawa handmade silver flute with a copy of a Grenser 6 key flute by Martin Wenner.??

This workshop is sponsored by Miyazawa Flutes
