Dr. Petra Music

Petra Music is a performing artist and educator specialising in flute repertoire. She plays on copies of original flutes from the renaissance period to our immediate present and enjoys a particular interest in improvisation, ornamentation and composition. In orchestra-, solo, and ensemble projects she has extensively performed in Austria and abroad. She has obtained masters degrees in orchestra performance and instrumental teaching at the Kunstuniversität Graz, Austria and a Dr. of Musical Arts in flute performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.

As senior lecturer at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (flute and instrumental pedagogy), she has always been fascinated by the beauty, passion and extreme elegance in Mozart’s music. The curiosity to discover this music the way it was supposed to sound back in the day has led her to a long and intensive study in early music at the Conservatorio di Musica “E.F. Dall’Abaco”, Verona, Italy (masters in flauto traversiere completed in 2022) and at the Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg (postgraduate degree). She has been following early music summer courses in Innsbruck and Urbino studying with Kate Clark, Rachel Brown and Linde Brunmayr-Tutz. Petra is very grateful to her professors Dieter Flury, Jonathan Keeble, Marcello Gatti and Marco Brolli, whose wisdom she strives to pass on to the next generation. She has taught masterclasses and workshops at international flute festivals and has published flute related articles. Also, she has been serving as adjudicator for various flute competitions since 2009.

Currently, Petra lives in Den Haag, where she is being immensely inspired by the exceptional Early Music / HIP expertise and the welcoming music community in this beautiful city.
