Selmer Clarinet Day
During the Selmer Clarinet Day at Adams Music Centre, two musical worlds come together. Classic meets Jazz & Jazz meets Classic. Clarinettist David Lukács brings his jazz background, while Roeland Hendrikx shares his classical expertise. Together, they will coach participants in tone production, effects and playing style, each from their own musical discipline.
Who will be leading the masterclasses?
David Lukács is a clarinettist and saxophonist with the Dutch Swing College Band. He studied clarinet at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and won the Kobe Jazz Award in 1998. His playing is rooted in the jazz tradition of Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman.
Roeland Hendrikx is one of Belgium's leading clarinettists. He was principal clarinet of the Belgian National Orchestra for many years before pursuing a solo career in 2017. Hendrikx teaches clarinet at the Maastricht Conservatorium and LUCA School of Arts in Leuven.
What will you learn during the Clarinet Day?
Both tutors teach from the perspective of their own musical style. Lukács focuses on tone production and effects used in jazz, including phrasing, articulation and improvisation. Hendrikx concentrates on the classical approach to tone production and interpretation.
Participants will discover how the same instrument and technique can lead to two very different musical sound worlds. The groups will switch halfway through the day, allowing everyone to experience both the classical and jazz sessions.

09:30 Welcome
10:00 to 12:00: Classical session for Group 1, jazz session for Group 2
12:00 to 13:00: Lunch, including a presentation of clarinets, mouthpieces and reeds
13:00 to 15:00: Classical session for Group 2, jazz session for Group 1
15:00 to 16:00: Closing concert featuring the participants
17:00: End of the programme
Practical information
The Selmer Clarinet Day takes place on Saturday 26 September 2026 at Adams Music Centre. The programme runs from 10:00 until approximately 17:00. Visitors are welcome between 10:00 and 16:00, with activities concluding by 17:00. Participation costs €15 per person.
