Adams Musical Centres - Together in Music

Helga Henckens

Helga Henckens (Belgium) worked as a teacher and as director in a Freinet primary school. Her interest in dance, singing and theatre and the link between body, mind and mouvement brought her towards eastern techniques such as Tai-Chi, Qi Gong, Buqi as well Body Mind Centering. Besides her private practice, she teaches the Alexander Technique in Conservatorium in Antwerp and movement and Alexander Technique workshops for Wisper in Louvain.

Alexander Technique

  • takes you through a learning process that helps you move more easily with less effort;
  • teaches that: "If you use your body well, it will function well";
  • breaks the pattern of bad habits and gives you the tools to achieve a freer and better movement pattern;
  • respects the mechanism of skeleton and muscles, thus promoting the body’s well-being;
  • is open to anyone who consciously chooses coordinated thinking and movement in all life activities;
  • makes the whole psychophysical being more harmonious and our energy use more balanced;
  • is taught in individual lessons: the teacher guides the student through verbal instructions and a specific kind of touch unique to the technique.

The workshop during the Flute Festival is given in small groups, allowing for plenty of individual attention.
The Alexander Technique is especially valuable for flutists, improving performance while standing or sitting, and helping to prevent and heal playing-related complaints.
