Clinic René Creemers
25 May 2016
With tracks and solos on a new kit in a new style on the Slagwerkkrant Podium, René Creemers has been playing drums for 50 years, yet continues to reinvent himself. To mark this anniversary he has released 5 brand new drum solos on video. On Thursday evening, June 16, he will give a clinic on the Slagwerkkrant Podium at Adams Drumworld. The opening act will be provided by rising talent on Adams drums, Stephen den Dolder. Free entry!
René Creemers will take center stage in the beautiful hall of Adams Drumworld. He will play along with tracks and, of course, draw from his new solo material that has been so beautifully performed on video — see the videos on his YouTube channel. René Creemers may well be the best clinician in the Netherlands. Not only because of his brilliant playing, but also because of the excellent explanations he can give about his own playing, how to perform in a band, and how to develop your technique and musical approach.
Fifty years of drumming
In 1982, Nijmegen native René Creemers graduated cum laude from the Arnhem Conservatory. What followed was a career as a band and solo drummer. First in the local pop band Gajus, then as drummer for Blowbeat, with whom he performed many shows in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland between 1983 and 1991. From 1991, René began giving concerts, clinics and masterclasses for the German drum manufacturer Sonor and the Swiss cymbal brand Paiste. That in itself is a milestone: 25 years as a Paiste and Sonor endorser!
From 2000 onwards he formed the drum duo Drumbassadors with Wim de Vries, performing countless concerts, clinics and masterclasses around the world. Highlights include: Modern Drummer Festival New York 2003, Australian Ultimate Drummer Weekend Melbourne 2005, Drummer Live London 2005, Le Bag show Paris 2007, Drummer Event Moscow 2008.
Between 1992 and 2012, readers of Slagwerkkrant voted René 10 times Best Fusion Drummer of the Benelux.
As a guest teacher he has led dozens of workshops and masterclasses worldwide. René has been a drum instructor at the Arnhem Conservatory since 1988 and at the Tilburg Rock Academy since 1999.
Drum solo videos
To celebrate his 50-year playing anniversary, he now has five drum solos on his own YouTube channel: "Ogaga", "Evidence", "Colors", "Minimal to the Max" and "Brasil in da House". Beautiful pieces with a strong focus on sound, dynamics and phrasing, yet also featuring plenty of chops. In the coming months he will upload a new solo every month.
René performs with a new Sonor , Paiste set-up.
