Husband, Gary (UK)
ADAMS DRUMMERS FESTIVAL - 13 april 2003
Gary Husband is one of a rare breed of musicians: he excels both as a drummer and as a keyboardist, and is internationally recognized in both fields. His classical background, his development in jazz, improvisation and jazz / fusion, and his experience in pop, rock and blues all contribute to his unique and versatile musical style.
His solo albums and DVDs in recent years have further reinforced his reputation as a highly regarded composer and arranger in contemporary music.
Born in 1960 in Yorkshire into a highly musical family, Gary laid the foundation for his career with classical piano studies under Fanny Waterman. At the age of ten, he also took up drums. Before he turned sixteen, he had already gained recognition as an exceptional talent on both instruments and became the youngest drummer ever to join the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
Through his early work composing jingles and music for BBC and YTV (guided by his father, a flutist / composer), accompanying renowned jazz artists in Leeds, and working with entertainers such as Lulu, Marion Montgomery and Matt Monro in radio and television, he quickly built up an impressive career - which eventually led him to London.
