Adams Musical Centres - Together in Music

Greb, Benny

ADAMS DRUMMERS FESTIVAL - 10 april 2011

Born in 1980 in Augsburg, Germany, Benny received his first drum kit at the age of six, marking the beginning of his musical journey. Initially self-taught by playing along with records, he began formal drum lessons at age twelve. He soon found himself playing in punk bands, discovering rock and jazz, and performing with various school ensembles.

In 1997, Benny started full-time music studies, first in Dinkelsbühl and later in Hamburg.

Today, Benny performs with a wide range of artists who appreciate his tasteful and flawless drumming style. You can hear him in rock settings with Stoppok and The Ron Spielman Trio, in jazz with his own Benny Greb Brass Band, and in pop and funk with Jerobeam, both in studio recordings and on tour.

He has also played classical music and collaborated with the NDR Orchestra on their Zappa project. His ability to blend jazz and rock brings him to the fusion band 3ergezimmer. Known for his sense of humor, Benny also performs with the acoustic punk-cabaret act Strom & Wasser, proving no genre is beyond his creative reach.

Beyond these collaborations, Benny has worked with Christian von Richthofen in a duo using a car as a percussion instrument. He is also a sought-after session musician, composer, and producer.

Driven by his deep love for drums, Benny shares his knowledge and passion through teaching, especially to young players. He regularly gives lessons at the Hamburg School of Music, the Popakademie in Mannheim, the Popkurs at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, and the Bandcamp at the Bayerische Musikakademie Hammelburg.

Benny tours internationally, inspiring drummers around the globe with clinics for Sonor and Meinl at events like the Montreal Drum Festival (Canada), Ultimate Drummers Weekend (Australia), World Drum Festival (Germany), Drummer Live (UK), and PASIC (USA).

He also writes, records, and releases solo projects, including Grebfruit. His DVD, The Language of Drumming – A System For Musical Expression, was released in 2009 on Hudson Music and showcases his unique drumming approach.
