Gary Ferguson has been a dedicated drummer from a young age, recording his first session at just 17 years old for Shirley Bassey. In the mid-1970s, he began touring with artists such as Etta James, Olivia Newton-John, and Cher. Throughout the 1980s, he continued performing with Cher, Les Dudek, Eddie Money, David Benoit, Gary Moore, and Charlie Sexton. During the 1990s, he focused mainly on studio session work.

In the mid-90s, John Hiatt brought Gary back on the road, followed by collaborations with Glenn Hughes, Luke and Edgar, Larry Carlton, and Steve Lukather. More recently, he performed in the Women Rock Lifetime TV Special, featuring Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, The Dixie Chicks, and others.
