Baheux, Phil (B)
ADAMS DRUMMERSFESTIVAL - 25 march 2012
Phil Baheux was born in Etterbeek on 19/11/1967 and passed away on 10/08/2013.
At the age of 13, Phil knew he wanted to become a drummer. He worked every weekend for two years to buy his first drum kit at the age of 15: a Premier. At 17, he started his first band and recorded his first album at Studio Molière on Pilum Records at the age of 18, produced by Gus Roan, also known for his work with Cyclone.
He toured with bands such as Excel, Wehrmacht and Mucky Pup. After parting ways with singer Danny M (DV8, Angel Crew), Phil founded Channel Zero in 1990 together with Franky De Smet-Van Damme and Xavier Carion (Cyclone). This marked the beginning of Channel Zero’s history.
Phil’s drumming influences included Phil Rudd (AC/DC), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel) and Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine), as well as bands like 24-7 Spyz and Living Colour.
The Belgian metal band Channel Zero announced Phil’s passing via Facebook, with confirmation from CNR Records. Phil Baheux, co-founder and drummer of Channel Zero, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 45, a tremendous shock to the band, crew and family.
Founded in 1990, Channel Zero became internationally known as “the Belgian Metallica”. Albums such as Channel Zero (1992), Stigmatized for Life (1993) and Unsafe (1995) defined their legacy. After reuniting in 2010, the band performed at major festivals including Graspop Metal Meeting and Rock Werchter.
