On April 15 and 16, we hosted the renowned Drummersfestival. After several years of absence, the atmosphere and energy were fully back. While the hundreds of attendees from previous editions (sometimes over 1,000) weren't all there yet this year, it didn't spoil the fun. After making waves on this side of the world in the late '90s, the Australian drummer continued building his career in the US. In addition to delivering groundbreaking clinics, he played with bands like Planet X and artists such as Steve Vai, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, and Tony MacAlpine. He frequently tours with his own Virgil Donati Band. He calls his clinics ‘drum concerts’ and sets the bar sky-high: expect metric modulations, polyrhythms, and multidimensional grooves. Watch out for his high-speed bass drum work, out-of-this-world coordination, raw power, and above all, the musicality of his performance.
Thomas Lang hardly needs an introduction. Nearly 15 years ago, he burst onto the scene as a clinic drummer, ushering in a new era of super drummers. He redefined drumming technique with unbelievable independence, lightning-fast hands and feet, and a constant sense of musicality—even at his most athletic moments. Thomas Lang can do it all—and he does.
In his everyday work, Thomas Lang performs with a wide range of artists where groove and 'less is more' are often the key. But during clinics and solo performances, he unleashes pure drum mastery. From mind-blowing polyrhythmic solos to complex play-along tracks with rhythmic tricks and humor, a Thomas Lang clinic is never dull. "People expect something when they come to a clinic. And for me, it’s always a challenge to see how far I can push it," he once said in Slagwerkkrant.
