DWF 2008 - Ray Luzier
Ray Luzier, the new drummer of KORN, was incredible. His drumming was spectacular and masterful. You could feel his energy from 10 meters away. After his show, Ray signed all kinds of things—just like all the other artists did. Ray was clearly having a great time, and it showed.
Powerhouse rock drummer Ray Luzier (1970) had a pair of sticks in his hands by the age of five. Two years later, when he got his first drum kit, it quickly became clear what his life’s mission would be. A self-taught musician, Luzier practiced for years by playing along with records from bands like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Deep Purple. He also gained a lot of experience in his high school’s jazz band, marching band, and concert band. At fifteen, he formed his first band. To advance further and broaden his horizons, he moved to LA to attend the Percussion Institute of Technology. With the diploma from that renowned school in hand, he taught there himself from 1992 to 2001.
Around 1995, Luzier came into contact with David Lee Roth, who asked him to drum a few studio tracks. That turned out to be such a success that Roth immediately invited him on tour. Luzier would go on to play with the guitarist for eight years. Two years later, he was asked to replace Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison in the nu-metal band KoRn, with whom he has been touring ever since. A solid drummer indeed, and also the creator of an excellent instructional DVD.
