New Flute Headjoints

A flute headjoint has a significant influence on the sound, response, articulation, range and playing feel of a flute. It is the part you blow into, where the airflow is split at the embouchure hole to produce a note. A different headjoint can therefore change the character and playing qualities of an existing flute.

Flute headjoints are available in a wide range of materials and constructions. The selection includes silver-plated, silver, gold-plated and gold models. Flute makers also combine these materials, for example in a headjoint with a silver tube and a gold lip plate, riser or crown. Wooden headjoints are also available, including models made from grenadilla and other hardwoods. The shape of the embouchure hole, the lip plate, the riser and the materials used all contribute to the playing experience and sound production.

Curved headjoints are available for young flute players. These reduce the overall length of the flute, making the instrument easier to hold and play.

Adams European Flute Centre offers an extensive collection of flute headjoints from specialist headjoint makers and established flute brands. Our flute specialists can help you compare different models on your own instrument. If the chosen headjoint does not fit the flute correctly, our repair department can adjust it to fit.
