Lunch-concert
Ned McGowan and David Vaamonde will perform a concert in the rare combination of contrabass flute and piano. Next to works by Stravinsky and Debussy, several of McGowan’s own compositions will be featured, bringing out different colors and musical expressions from the contrabass flute. Premiering on this concert will be an arrangement of his second concerto for contrabass flute, Found in Translation (2021).
Ned McGowan (1970) is a composer, flutist, researcher and teacher, born in the United States and living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Known for rhythmical vitality and technical virtuosity, his music has won awards and been performed at Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw and other halls and festivals around the world by many orchestras, ensembles and soloists. As a flutist he plays classical, contemporary and improvisation concerts internationally and he has a special love for the contrabass flute, in 2016 releasing the album: The Art of the Contrabass Flute. David Vaamonde (1999) is a pianist and composer from Galicia (Spain), holding a Master of Music in both disciplines from Codarts University of the Arts (Rotterdam, Netherlands). He develops his artistic activity in a wide range of contexts, leading ensembles of classical contemporary music and experimental songwriting as a performer-composer, but also collaborating regularly with jazz and Latin-American musicians, due to his special interest in improvisation and musical traditions from all over the world. Besides his musical career, he is active as a writer, having won various distinctions in the field.
