Breathing Bach - Hans Wolters

Sunday 8 February 2026 | 14:00 - 17:00 | Demo hall

The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is brilliant and deeply rewarding to play, but for oboists, it can also be physically demanding.

Endless phrases with hardly any time to breathe – or so it feels. Whether you're playing in an orchestra, an ensemble, or just for fun at home: how do we manage our breath and air usage so that we can keep playing relaxed – all the way to the end of a movement or even an entire piece?

We'll explore this through some of Bach’s most iconic sinfonias:

  • Sinfonia 'Ich stehe mit einem Fuss im Grabe' (BWV 156)
  • Slotkoor uit de Matthäus Passion (BWV 244)
  • Overture van de 1e orkestsuite (BWV 1066)

A valuable session for oboists aiming to refine their breathing technique within the context of Bach’s profound baroque music.
