Saturday 7 February 2026 | 10:30 - 11:30 | Room L

Music-making is an athletic endeavour consisting of complex, integrated physical and mental processes.

Common complaints include pain, tingling, numbness, or reduced muscle control. The most frequent issues for oboists are related to the arms, neck, shoulders, and back. During the oboe festival, Vera will give a lecture focusing on the biology of oboe playing: What is the physical load? Which muscles are used, and what is the importance of posture, hand position, etc.? What is the current state of science regarding healthy music-making? What preventive measures can be taken to avoid these issues?
