Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater Concert
The Stabat Mater tells the moving story of Mary at the foot of the cross. In this special performance, the piece is brought to life by a large flute orchestra and two outstanding soloists: Isabel Houtmortels (soprano) and Wies de Greef (alto). The concert is conducted by Rogier de Pijper (Flute Colors) and Mirna Ackers (North Netherlands Orchestra). A unique evening where an ancient masterpiece resounds in a surprising sonic landscape.
The roughly 50-member Passion for Flute Orchestra forms the heart of the evening. Also on the program is Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Op. 20, arranged especially for flute orchestra. This youthful and lyrical piece radiates warmth and simplicity – it was one of the first works Elgar himself was truly satisfied with.
You may already know the Adams Music Centre in Ittervoort – the largest music store in the Netherlands and home to Europe’s most extensive range of flutes and piccolos. That world of flutes comes to life this evening in the Saint Margaret Church. During the Stabat Mater, additional flutists will join the stage – musicians who participated in a rehearsal earlier that same afternoon at the 19th Adams International Flute Festival. That same evening, they step onto the concert stage, adding extra energy and festive flair to this exceptional event.
