Ruth Legelli is principal Flutist of the Düsseldorf Symphoniker / Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein

Ruth Legelli was born on January 1, 1967 in Freiburg im Breisgau.

She attended the Freie Waldorfschule Freiburg St. Georgen from 1973 to 1985.

From 1986 to 1990 she studied flute with Ruth Wentorf at the Musikhochschule Freiburg in the orchestral and instrumental performance program and graduated with a diploma in 1990. This was followed by concert preparation at the Musikhochschule Zurich with Günter Rumpel, and in 1993 she earned her concert re-diploma with distinction. She then continued her studies for two years with Aurèle Nicolet in Basel.

During this time she successfully participated in international competitions, including the Geneva Music Competition, the ARD Music Competition in Munich, and the flute competition in Szeged, Hungary.

After orchestral practice with the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Biel, Switzerland (1995–1996), she became Principal Flutist of the Düsseldorf Symphonic Orchestra in 1996.

From 2000 to 2014 she held a lecturer position for flute at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Since 2000 she has also been intensively involved with baroque and romantic flutes.

Orchestral Activities

Since 1996 she has served as 1st Solo Flutist of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker / Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein under GMD Adam Fischer and Axel Kober.

She is permanent solo flutist of the German Chamber Academy Neuss am Rhein under Johannes Goritzki and Lavard Skou Larsen, and has performed with the West German Sinfonia under Dirk Joeres.

Ruth Legelli is founder of the orchestra Rheinklang, focusing on symphonic repertoire on original instruments, with Martin Schmeding.

Recordings

She has appeared on recordings for labels and broadcasters such as cpo, SWF, WDR, and RAI.

Chamber Music Activities

Ruth founded the Quintet of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and performs with Ensemble Luney (flute, oboe, recorder, harpsichord) and Ensemble Rheinklang (winds on original instruments of the Romantic period). She also presents regular flute / piano duo programs with Jee-Young Philips.

Teaching and Courses

Since spring 2000 she has conducted a flute class as part of a teaching project for instrumental pedagogy and orchestral music at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. She is a regular lecturer at international master classes, including in Ireland (Irish-German Masterclasses), Liesborn (Musikforum für Instrumental- und Kammermusik), and Koblenz (International Pentecost Seminar).

She leads audition training courses at the Orchestra Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia and serves as juror at international competitions such as the Aeolus Competition.
