Raf de Groote
Belgian flutist Raf De Groote (born 1960) began his musical training later in life and completed an intensive education. Once active professionally, he gradually became an experience-based expert in a wide range of physical complaints, ranging from back, neck and shoulder issues to difficulties with prolonged standing, hyperventilation, and more. After a spontaneous collapsed lung in 2002, he also developed a fear of exhaling forcefully.
In search of answers and insights into how the body functions while making music, he initially explored various methods such as the Feldenkrais Method and the Alexander Technique. In 2011, he became a Licensed Body Mapping Teacher, followed by a three-year training program as a Certified Franklin Method Educator Level 3 (2014). Raf gives workshops and courses on breathing, posture, and movement optimization. In Belgium, he teaches the four-part workshop series “Ademtraject voor Professionals” for OVSG.
