Martine van der Loo

Martine van der Loo is principal flutist with the Residentie Orkest in The Hague. In addition, she has her own “Practice for Musicians” as a psychologist. During the Bassoon Festival she gives a workshop called “Mental Training” in which she teaches participants how to deal with performance anxiety and stage fright.

Martine van der Loo (1963) studied flute with Abbie de Quant at the Utrecht Conservatory, where she earned her solo diploma with distinction. Martine began her career while still a student as first flutist with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. For eight years she was principal flutist with the Radio Symphony Orchestra, and since 1995 she has been principal flutist with the Residentie Orkest in The Hague. In addition, Martine van der Loo is a certified psychologist NIP, health psychologist. She has her own “Practice for Musicians” in The Hague, where she focuses on the mental coaching of musicians, especially conservatory students. Her goal is to support musicians in performing at their best when it matters most. Learning to cope with stage fright is an important part of her training “Optimal Performance”. As a psychologist, Martine is in the unique position of also being an active performing musician herself.
