Leonie Wolters

Leonie Wolters, born in 1984 in Roermond, began playing the flute at the age of six. At twelve, she added the bassoon to her repertoire. From 2002 to 2007, Leonie studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, majoring in flute with Emily Beynon and bassoon with Johan Steinmann.

She successfully earned Bachelor’s degrees in both fields. From 2007 to 2010, she pursued a master’s degree in flute at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken under Prof. Gaby Pas-van Riet, graduating cum laude in 2010. Alongside her studies, she took private lessons with, among others: Peter Lukas Graf, Andrea Lieberknecht, Silvia Caredu, Herman van Kogelenberg, Kersten McCall, Vincent Cortvrint, Birgit Engelhardt, and Christina Singer.

Leonie gained orchestral experience as a member of several youth orchestras, such as the Jeugd Orkest Nederland (JON), the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJO), and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. Since 2005, she has been a substitute for various professional orchestras in the Netherlands and Germany, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in Munich, the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. During the 2006-2007 season, she was accepted into the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Academy in Amsterdam.

From 2010 to 2020, Leonie served as principal flutist of the Staatskapelle Weimar. Since 2020, she has been the Deputy Principal Flute of the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal.
