Gaspar Hoyos has been praised by conductors, colleagues, and critics as one of the most exciting and interesting flutists of his generation. A recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including international competitions, he has performed to critical acclaim throughout South America, North America, Europe, and the Far East. He has won prizes at the Jean-Pierre Rampal Competition, the Markneukirchen International Competition, and the NFA Young Artist Competition, which led to his European solo debut with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
He currently divides his time between concerto appearances, solo recitals, chamber music, and collaborations with the New Music Ensemble Ultim’asonata, exploring multidisciplinary projects that unite visual and performing arts. He has appeared as a soloist with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Orchestre Symphonique de Nancy, Ensemble La Follia, Orchestre de chambre de Lorraine, the orchestras of Vogtland and Markneukirchen, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Bogotá and Lima, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and San Angelo Symphony Orchestra. He was invited to join the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra for their China-Taiwan tour, and has also played with the orchestras of Mulhouse and the Opéra de Lyon.
Gaspar Hoyos has performed at prestigious festivals such as Nancyphonies, Montpellier Radio-France, Musica Riva (Italy), Festival of Istria, July in Jordan Hall (Boston), and the Maurice Ravel Festival in France. He is a frequent guest at major international flute festivals, including the European Flute Festival (Frankfurt), Japan Flute Convention (Kobe), French Flute Convention (Paris), Festival de Flauta de Lima (Peru), and the National Flute Association Conventions (USA).
In 2008, he joined Paolo Olmi and the Orchestre de Nancy for a performance of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Concerto in D minor. His discography includes Bravissimo, a 19th-century flute music album recorded for Octavia Records (Japan), and a CD recorded in Bogotá featuring 20th-century French and Colombian masterworks. Upcoming recording projects include J.S. Bach’s Sonatas with harpsichordist Jory Vinikour for Lontano Productions.
Gaspar Hoyos tours frequently in Colombia. Upcoming projects include an Asia tour (Japan, Korea, Taiwan), a South America tour, and invitations to teach and perform in the United States. He is scheduled to perform at the Clairac and Sierra Musical (Madrid) festivals. His latest program, a Latin Project for flute and piano, has received enthusiastic praise from both audiences and critics.
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Gaspar Hoyos studied in Boston with Paula Robison and in Paris with Raymond Guiot. He was the last flutist to study privately with the legendary Jean-Pierre Rampal at his home on avenue Mozart in Paris.
Gaspar Hoyos is also a passionate teacher. He was recently appointed to the faculty of E.M.A-Metz and leads annual summer flute schools in Nancy, Bergerac (France), and Groznjan (Croatia) as part of the Jeunesses Musicales educational program. His masterclasses are highly regarded worldwide, and he is regularly invited to teach in France, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Colombia, and the USA.
