Flutechoir Maaseik
The Flutechoir Maaseik has taken shape from a project-based ensemble. Since september 2016 it has been an established ensemble within the Stedelijke Academie voor Kunsten Maaseik.
Current and former students from the music school form this ensemble.
Conductor Johan Mertens is well-known within the world of flute ensembles. With one of his flute ensembles "Tutti Flutti" he achieved:
- 3 times 1st prize at the Benelux Flute Competition
- 1st prize at the WMC (World Music Competition) in the 1st division
With Tutti Flutti he had accompanied several soloists like Wil Offermans, Peter Verhoyen, Toon Fret and Nicola Mazzanti amongst others.
He has written around 40 arrangements for flute ensembles.
