Ernest Rombout
Ernest Rombout studied with Prof. Heinz Holliger at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany. He passed both his final examination and the rarely awarded soloist examination ‘cum laude’, and continued his studies with Maurice Bourgue and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. At the age of 19, he was a prizewinner at the international oboe competition in Ancona, Italy.
In 1983, he made his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras and ensembles throughout Europe, Japan and the United States.
His first solo CD was released in 1994, featuring the oboe concertos by Mozart and Haydn, recorded with the Concertgebouwkamerorkest. The CD received an enthusiastic international reception and was named CD of the Month in the Netherlands.
He has taught oboe as a principal study at the Utrechts conservatorium since 1985 and at the Conservatorium Amsterdam since 2007.
In 2015, he was appointed Professor of Oboe at the Musik und Kunst Privat Universität Wien.
Ernest Rombout has established himself as a highly versatile oboist. Alongside his solo concerts, he performs extensively as a chamber musician in a variety of ensembles.
