Anna Garzuly

While still a student, Anna won numerous prizes at international flute competitions such as Geneva, Kobe, Scheveningen, Budapest, and Markneukirchen. She was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado and received the Ingolstadt City Prize. Her studies were supported by multiple scholarships, including from the Georg Soros Foundation, the Rotary Club Munich, and the Hungarian Eötvös State Scholarship. In 1995, she won the East & West Artists Competition for a debut recital at Carnegie Hall in New York.

That same year, she became Associate Principal Flutist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and later served as Acting Principal Flutist from 2008 to 2017. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has performed under conductors such as Riccardo Chailly and Herbert Blomstedt with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, as well as with the New Bach Collegium Musicum and the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra. She has collaborated in chamber music projects and recordings with the Sabine Meyer Ensemble, the Linos Ensemble, in a piano duo with Imre Rohmann, the Gewandhaus Octet, and the wind ensemble "armonia".

She is co-founder of the Leipzig-based flute ensemble Quintessenz, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021. Anna can be heard on numerous award-winning orchestral and chamber music recordings. In addition to her artistic work, she is passionately engaged in music education, regularly giving masterclasses throughout Europe and Asia. She was a long-time mentor at the Mendelssohn Orchestra Academy of the Gewandhaus and has supported students preparing for the Jugend Musiziert competition in Leipzig for many years. Since 2017, she has been Professor of Flute at the Leipzig University of Music.
