History:
Jan de Haas, born in Brussels on 1 / 6 / 62, had an interest in percussion from a young age. He took lessons at the music academy and received the government medal.
In 1979 he moved to America to study in Boston for three years at the renowned Berklee College of Music. He studied theory, arranging, drums, vibraphone, ensemble playing and analysis, among other subjects, and received his "Performance Diploma" cum laude.
With his own group he won first prize at Jazz Hoeilaart 1982.
He has accompanied many national and international artists: Toots Thielemans, Chet Baker, Randy Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Philippe Catherine, Slide Hampton, Eddie Daniels, Bert Joris, Jack Pelzer, Diederik Wissels, Deborah Brown, Nathalie Loriers and many others.
He also played in the B.R.T Jazz Orchestra conducted by Etienne Verschuren.
As a teacher, Jan de Haas is active at the Conservatory of Antwerp.
