Peter Thys began his musical career with the Royal Harmony of Peer. After attending music school, he continued his studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, where he studied percussion with Mr. Carlo Willems.

History:
Peter Thys began his musical path with the Royal Harmony of Peer. After music school, he studied percussion with Mr. Carlo Willems at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. Soon he joined the percussion department of the Royal Ballet of Flanders’ musical division. From that point his career took off, playing in major musicals in Belgium and the Netherlands such as ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Evita’, ‘Elisabeth’, ‘Tell Me On A Sunday’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Spamalot’, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘The Producers’, ‘Assepoester, het tamelijk ware verhaal’ and more recently ‘Chaplin, the Musical’.
Despite his classical training and experience with classical ensembles such as DeFilharmonie and the National Orchestra of Belgium, he now focuses exclusively on drum work in pop and rock music. He has performed with artists such as XL-Band (Studio 100, Samson & Gert, Mega Mindy…), Willy Claes Quartet, Tom Olaerts (Idool 2003), Lenny & de Wespen, Koen Wauters, Dana Winner, Gunther Neefs, Belle Perez, Sabien Tiels, Johan Verminnen, Alana Dante, John Terra, Patrick Vinx, Mama’s Jasje, Zjef Vanuytsel, Bart Herman, Amaryllis Temmerman, Luc Steeno, Bart Kaëll, Laura Lynn, Eddy Wally, Willy Sommers, Golden Bis Band, Jean Bosco Safari…
In 2012, as timpanist he completed a European mini-tour with the British band Archive, a collaboration that continued with recordings on their album ‘With Us Until You’re Dead’. That same year he also appeared as a drummer on the VTM TV show ‘Op zoek naar Annie’.
He continues his regular projects such as Roundabout, Maarten Cox, Duplicate, DD (seen on The Voice 2014), performs regularly as a substitute with many artists and bands, and teaches part-time at NIKO (North Limburg Institute for Arts Education).
