History:
His grandfather was one of the founders of the Americaanse fanfare and several uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces were or are involved in music. It was therefore inevitable: at a young age Martín received his first instrument, a drum kit. In 1979, Martín is just seventeen, he starts his first band with some friends: No Choice. Like many bands of that time, No Choice plays rock music. Songs by Black Sabbath, Rory Gallagher, Thin Lizzy and Ted Nugent are alternated with their own material. No Choice plays throughout the regional youth club circuit. The band experiences two absolute highlights. In April 1982 they perform as support act for Golden Earring and in June '83 the independently recorded duo vinyl single Doubts is released. In December 1983 the band splits up and something new has to be invented. Thus, at the beginning of 1984, Martíns second band, Claxon, is born. Again a cover band, but this time of heavier rock music: songs by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon and Van Halen are on the set list. Claxon mainly plays the regional youth circuit. During this period Martín regularly meets Jack Poels. Poels plays in the "collegially competing" band Bad Edge. Claxon also comes to an end, in 1986 the band is dissolved. Martíns drumsticks then disappear into the umbrella stand, only to come out again to record a carnival song.

At the end of 1988 Jack Poels asks Martín to join Rowwen Hèze. Rowwen Hèze has existed for just three years but is without a drummer. In April 1989 Rongen makes his debut during a concert at De Melkweg in Amsterdam. This marks the beginning of a wonderful musical career in which Martín not only plays drums but also develops as a budding lyricist. He wrote the lyrics for the songs "Nacht" and "Probleme".
