The Reference One sets feature MasterCast Die-Cast hoops, for a radical combination of sustain and attack. Pearl's R2 Air Tom Suspension System that is included with the Reference One ensures a clear tone, through a balanced, weightless attachment of the tom

The Reference One shells and hardware enhance the professional drumming experience with shells tuned to get the best tones of each drum. The 8" and 10" shells are EvenPly-Six (5.4mm) Maple/Birch for more attack and a higher pitch. The 12" tom is all Maple for a central tone. 13" and larger toms have Mahogany inner layers in the shells to lower the pitch and add depth to the sound. The floortoms and bass drums are an 8-ply composition of mahogany and maple to maximize bass frequencies.
