rarescale is a UK registered charity, formed by Carla Rees in 2003 to promote low flutes and their repertoire. Its activities include a professional chamber ensemble who work in collaboration with composers to generate new repertoire and perform actively in the UK, Europe and beyond, workshops for both performers and composers, and an educational ensemble, rarescale Flute Academy (rFA), who you will hear in today’s concert. rFA is an ensemble formed of degree-level performance students, high level amateur players and young professionals, and was set up in 2007 provide them with ensemble playing experience and to teach the specifics of playing low flutes. The players come from all over the UK.
This evening’s programme combines new works composed specifically for the group with well-loved classics of the Baroque era, arranged for low flute ensemble by Carla Rees. None of these works has previously been performed in the Netherlands so we are delighted to be able to share them with you!
