Egbert Jan Louwerse
Egbert Jan is Professor of Flute and Chambermusic at the Prins Claus Conservatory Groningen. He studied flute with Pieter Odé at the Sweelinck Conservatorium and with Marieke Schneemann at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam at which he achieved the highest diploma, specialising in contemporary music. In addition to playing the flute he also studied orchestral conducting, music with "live-electronics" and composition. For three years he also studied the complex rhythms and micro-tonality of Carnatic music; the classical music of Southern India. Egbert Jan is currently focussed mainly on chamber music. He is a member of the Nederlands Fluitkwartet, with which in 2001 he was a prize winner at the prestigious Kuhlau Flute Competition in Germany. Together with harpist Vera Kool he has his succesful FluteHarp Duo. He is one of the flautists of flute octet “Blow Up!” and is flautist with the international Occult Ensemble which specialises in modern music. Egbert Jan has performed with established orchestras such as the Orkest van het Oosten, The Barton Workshop, Orkest de Volharding and the Amsterdam Wind Orchestra. He was guest as teacher and player during the international Orlando Festival in 2004, where he performed with renowned musicians such as Peter Brunt, Pauline Oostenrijk, Stefan Metz and Ken Hakii. In 2008 he got invited to the famous International Académie Musicale de Villecroze, France. In France he worked with famous musicians such as J.M. Damase, M.C. Jamet and Christian Lardé. Egbert Jan studeerde fluit bij Pieter Odé aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium en bij Marieke Schneemann aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam bij wie hij het hoogste diploma behaalde, zich specialiserend in moderne muziek.
Naast het fluitspelen verdiepte hij zich tijdens zijn studie in orkestdirectie, muziek met behulp van "live-electronica" en in compositie. Verder bestudeerde hij gedurende drie jaar de complexe ritmiek en microtonaliteit van de Carnatische muziek, de klassieke muziek uit Zuid-India.
Egbert Jan richt zich momenteel voornamelijk op de kamermuziek. Zo is hij een van de fluitisten van het Nederlands Fluitkwartet waarmee hij in 2001 prijswinnaar werd op het prestigieuze Kuhlau-fluitconcours in Duitsland. Met harpiste Vera Kool vormt hij zijn FluitHarp Duo. Hij is een van de fluitisten van het uit acht fluitisten bestaande ensemble “Blow Up!” en is fluitist van het internationale Occult Ensemble dat gespecialiseerd is in moderne muziek. Egbert Jan speelde bij gevestigde orkesten als Het Orkest van het Oosten, de Marinierskapel, The Barton Workshop, De Volharding en the Amsterdam Wind Orchestra. Met het FluitHarp Duo speelde hij op het NFG International Flute Festival 2012 en is regelmatig op internationale festivals te vinden voor concerten en masterclasses.
Egbert Jan was te gast als docent en speler tijdens het internationaal bekende Orlando Festival in 2004 waar hij speelde met befaamde musici als Peter Brunt, Pauline Oostenrijk, Stefan Metz en Ken Hakii. Met Vera Kool ontving hij de eervolle uitnodiging voor de wereldberoemde Académie Musicale de Villecroze in Frankrijk in juni 2008.
Hij bespeelt een 14 k gouden Pearl Maesta.
